Extended Learning

DJBET电竞菠菜人 www.wenzhousizu.com The Extended Learning programme at Invicta consists of a number of different opportunities for students as part of Extended Schools.  The extensive provision available for the whole school community has been accredited with the highest level of Advanced Status and is deemed to be outstanding and was re validated at the start of this academic year.

Lectures
This includes an established lecture programme which is primarily for upper school students but there are also occasional lectures for students from years 7 to 9. Speakers are primarily from universities, commerce and industry. The lectures are designed to give students an experience of university style lectures and to inspire wider learning. Lectures this year have included Dying to be Beautiful, Young Vets and The Current State of British Politics.

We have also introduced this year an ‘occasional evening guest lecture’ programme which is open to parents.  This year we were very pleased to invite Donald Stevens who was the lead engineer of the Bluebird land speed world record winning car and boat project.  The parents and students who attended thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Masterclasses
a??
There are also a number of Masterclasses focused around subject clusters or related to sectors of employment. This year they have included 'The Surreal Mind', where creative students were inspired by the lives of Surrealist artists Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, as told by their granddaughter.

Cutural Programme
a??
There is a cultural programme which includes trips to West End theatres and other arts organisations. Performances this year have included Mamma Mia, Wicked and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time.  Iconic films are screened regularly and there are many school focused performances across the creative sector.  Many of the public and corridor areas of the school are used as exhibition spaces.

Kent Schools Public Speaking Competition
Invicta hosts annually the Kent Schools Public Speaking competition and a cross county Kent Schools Debating competition.  Many schools across Kent are regular participants and it has enabled us to develop partnerships with this schools to encourage and develop these vital communication skills.  We have an established Primary Speaks competition programme which encourages year 5 pupils from a wide range of Primary Schools to compete in public speaking.  There are regular Invicta school debate and public speaking competitions and there are many opportunities for students to present and to develop communication skills.

Take a New Challenge
a??
Under the heading ‘Take on a new Challenge’ we offer an outstanding programme of clubs and societies that take place during the lunchtime, after school or at the weekend.  They cover an extensive range of topics and activities which meets the needs of most of our students.  The choice is considerable and range from Bee Keeping to Astronomy.  We are always keen to support new ideas for additional clubs and societies if they are requested.  The STEM programme for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects offers a fantastic range of activities and competitions.  Competitions are encouraged across the school and are at a school, local, national and international level.  Competitions are an excellent way for students to extend interests and to continue to engage with subjects that they are no longer studying in a formal way.

University Preparation
a??
There are opportunities for students to prepare effectively for applications to the top universities though an established Oxbridge programme of workshops, interview preparation and discussion groups and visits to Oxford and Cambridge.  There are growing links with Harvard and Yale universities in the USA.  Invicta has hosted an information evening on behalf of both universities and we are very pleased to be welcoming both universities back to Invicta this September.  For younger students there is the Aspire programme which involves discussion groups and visits to encourage students to begin preparation for aiming high and to broaden horizons.  The Academic Subject Hub discussion groups led by students have been introduced this year to enable students with similar interests to discuss academic material beyond lessons.

EPQ - Extended Project Qualification
a??
There is also a wide range of extended qualifications that the students can take including The Project qualification at levels 1 & 2 and also the Extended Project Qualification taken in the sixth form.  Invicta is also a centre for the AQA BACC which recognizes and credits student’s wider participation in community, work related learning and personal development.  Invicta is also a centre for the Arkwright Scholarships in Engineering.  Students can also take the Arts Award, Crest Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and also the LAMDA qualification in public speaking.
