Welcome to your new school

What is it like to be at Invicta Grammar School?

Hopefully, you will have visited Invicta Grammar School before, perhaps at one of our Open Evenings, a school performance or when you attended one of our fun all day activity workshops.

Invicta is a big school, probably much bigger than the school you are attending at the moment, however it is really easy to find your way around. We have four buildings built around a green courtyard. The Main Building, with three floors, has classrooms for subjects such as History, Geography and Science. The Extension Building houses Computer Science, Science, Art and Photography. The Albion Building houses more science laboratories, Languages, Classical Civilisations and Design and Technology. The Orchard Building which was built in 2005 is home to English, Upper and Lower School Offices, Sixth Form areas and the Resources Centre. The Lower School Office is a friendly place where you can ask for help with all manner of things from lost property to a forgotten lunch card. If you have any worries this is the place to go. The remaining side of the square has the Hall, Dining Room, Music, Drama Studio and Gym. We also have the brand new Izatt Building which is where Mathematics lessons take place and houses the Dance Studio and Reading Room. Outside are the tennis courts, netball courts and an astro turf for sports activities.

It may seem daunting at first but you will soon find your way around. Our current students and staff are always happy to help, just ask, they were new once too!

Will I make friends?

You may be coming to Invicta with a group of friends from your primary school or on your own.  If you are the only one from your school don’t worry as we are a very friendly school.

Are there clubs and sporting activities for me to join in?

At primary school, you may have been part of a music or drama group or played sports such as netball and rounders. Here, at Invicta, we have lots of different clubs you can join which is an excellent way to make friends.  Year 7 clubs include a Book Club, Film Club, Art, Choir and many more. You can even learn about bee keeping with the Science department. These activities take place before, during and after school. There are also opportunities to join one of our sport clubs. Invicta has a very strong tradition in dance but our students also enjoy netball, gymnastics, hockey and korfball. There is always an activity for you to join with your new friends.

For more information on being a student at Invicta please click for the Year 7 Student Handbook.
